Action Items 

Upon accepting your offer to join our Metro Atlanta corps, there are many action items you will need to complete to ensure you can make it to the first day of school with your students.

ALL action items must be complete in order for you to be able to interview with principals.

However, don't let this list overwhelm you. Take it one Action Item at a time and reach out to us if you have questions or concerns. We are in this together!

Sign Up for the TFA Metro Atlanta 2022 Slack Channel <Required>

Sign up for Slack with your @tfacorps.org email address. We also recommend downloading the Slack app on your phone and desktop, and setting a reminder on your phone/calendar to check Slack at least once a week. This will be our main communication channel for questions, shared resources, reminders for upcoming deadlines, and community building throughout your onboarding experience.

Sign up for a TFA Circle group <Required>

 

Sign up for your TFA Circle group and save all monthly event dates. TFA Circles are a core component of your onboarding experience as a 2022 TFA Metro Atlanta corps member. You will meet once a month with your small group to build community and engage in learning together.

Register & study for GACE Exams (required)

In order to be eligible to attain your temporary teaching certificate in the state of Georgia, you must pass three sets of GACE exams before you begin teaching:

​

  1. GACE Program Admissions (may be eligible to exempt with GRE/SAT/ACT scores)

  2. GACE Content Exams

  3. GACE Ethics Exam

​

Given this criteria, you should register for your GACE exams within two weeks after you have accepted your offer to join TFA Metro Atlanta. Reference our GACE EXAMS section of this website to gather all the details about exemption criteria, which exams to register for, how to request financial aid, as well as step by step directions on how to register for GACE Exams. 

Submit GACE Program Admissions Exemption Documents (if eligible) 

 

Many people are able to exempt from the GACE Program Admission Assessment (PAA) with certain standardized test scores. Review the requirements to see if you’re eligible for an exemption! If so, you will need to submit OFFICIAL test scores to our 2022 CM Documents Form. PDF form only.

Apply for Need-Based Financial Support (optional)

 

In addition to the $5,000 stipend all corps members receive, TFA provides need-based low interest loans and grants to support the costs corps members incur between Pre-Service and their first paycheck. Apply today in the Applicant Center on teachforamerica.org.

Save the dates for Pre-Service (required) 

 

Pre-Service Onboarding: late April 2022 (asynchronous)

Pre-Service: Week of May 23, 2022 (part-time, synchronous) 

Pre-Service: Week of May 31, 2022 (full time, synchronous)

District Fingerprinting & Background Checks: Varies by district, typically mid-July.

New Teacher Orientation & Pre-Planning Week: Varies by district. Starting in late July.

*You will need to plan to be in-person for training in Atlanta by June 1, 2022.

Send in your Headshot! (required)

 

Please send us a headshot pic.  Your headshot picture needs to appropriate to share with hiring partners and to be included in our 2022 TFA Corps Member Look Book.  It needs to represent you as a professional. Submit your headshot to our 2022 CM Documents Survey Form.

Complete the Get to Know You Survey (required)

 

This survey allows TFA-MATL staff to get to know you better so that we can better support you during Onboarding.  You must take this survey as a part of being Interview/Hiring Ready. Access the survey HERE.

Create a TFA-Formatted Resume (required)

 

In preparation for the school placement process, you must create a TFA formatted resume.  We’ve found that this is the best format for TFA corps members to highlight their experiences, skills and talents in a way that is compelling to our hiring partners. Make sure to have someone proofread your resume before you submit it to us. For details, instructions, and template, reference the Our TFA Resume tab of our website. Submit your resume to our 2022 CM Documents Survey Link.

Complete the School Interviews Preparation Guide (required)

 

To ensure you are set up for success during virtual interview opportunities, our expectation is that each of you spend time preparing for your interviews. We have designed an School Interview Preparation Guide for you to complete and submit to the 2022 Corps Member Documents Form.

Please note you will each be paired with a staff member to engage in interview prep at various points throughout the spring and summer. You will need to have submitted the School Interview Prep Guide in order to fully engage.

Submit Verification of Lawful Presence and PAQ Forms (required)

Submit Verification of Lawful Presence Forms and Complete the Certification Application and Personal Affirmation Questions via your PSC Profile Starting May 27th

You can complete the Certification Application and Personal Affirmation Questions via your myPSC online account now.  However, you must complete and submit the Verification of Lawful Presence forms no sooner than May 27th.  When your employing school district/charter/partnership network applies for your teaching certificate, these forms cannot be over 90 days.

Corps Member Disability Accommodation Request Form (optional)

Teach For America values people with disabilities and believes in their ability to address issues of educational inequity. Please use the form below to let us know if you have a disability that will impact your pre-service training engagement (in both an online or in-person learning environment). Our Disabilities Accommodations Office and summer training staff will follow up with corps members who request an accommodation. Please note that you may be required to complete additional documentation after you submit your request.

Complete AmeriCorps Action Items to become enrolled in Americorps (optional)

 

  • As a Teach For America corps member, you may be eligible to enroll in AmeriCorps during your first and second year in the classroom. To qualify for enrollment, you must meet specific citizenship and service term requirements. If you are planning on enrolling in AmeriCorps this fall, please upload the required citizenship, social security, and eligibility documentation to the Applicant Center as soon as possible.  Failure to upload the required documentation  will likely cause a delay in your enrollment.

  • <ACTION REQUIRED by May 31st> Upload Citizenship, Social Security, & Eligibility Documents to the Applicant Center for AmeriCorps.

  • Background check process beginning in May.  

    • Beginning in May 2022 you will receive the initial authorization form for TFA to start running background checks.
